Quilt Aid 2009

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Blueberries is very excited to be a part of this wonderful program for 2009!

What is Quilt Aid 2009?
It is a program where you can make a quilt and support a charity at the same time.

How does it work?
12 designers each designed a block, then each designer joined with a shop who exclusively sells their block, each shop also sells their version of a finishing kit. Blueberries is donating profits from the sale of the “Bluebird of Hope – Tree of Hope” block by Janelle Wind and the Blueberries “Bluebird of Hope” finishing kit to the nominated charity.

Who is the Charity?
The charity is World Vision – Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital. Three million women in Ethiopia become pregnant each year, of this 0.3% will develop obstretic fistulae. This represents approximately nine thousand new cases each year. The overall goal of the hospital is to provide services for those suffering from childbirth and related injuries, rehabilitating them to the point where they can be integrated back into their society with dignity and a sense of self worth. To read in full click here.

How do I get started?
You will need to purchase the 12 individual blocks from the 12 different shops, then choose a finishing kit.

To view the 12 blocks click here and to view the 12 different finishing kits click here.

The patterns and kits will be available whilst fabric stocks last. This will particularly limit the number of finishing kits available so purchase early so you don’t miss out on your favourite kit. You can purchase all 12 block kits and your finishing kit on the same day if you like, or spread them out over a few months. Maximum program time will be 12 months but as this is the inaugural year it is not known how popular it will be and kits may sell out in one month or less.

To purchase each block you will need to visit each shop online or if you live nearby in person. There are Block of the Month options available, to find out more about this and full details of the Quilt Aid 2009 program visit their website by clicking here.

Alternatively contact Blueberries on 02 4355 4400 or email enquiries@blueberries.net.au

Collect all 12 blocks and a finishing kit for a chance to win a prize pack worth over $300.

Blueberries Bus Trip

Monday, June 29th, 2009

bus11

Well our Bus Trip down to the quilt and craft show in Sydney was a huge success. 60 something very brave girls were up and about very early to be at our shop by 7.30am to head down to the show.

Susan and Rachael were our bus monitors and from all reports everyone was on their best behaviour. That is of course until Susan pulled out a bag full of knickers!

We had a “knicker raffle” in support of Quilt Aid 2009, which our store is very excited to be a part of. More than $200 was raised  and over 100 pairs of knickers were donated to help the fistula clinics in Addis Ababa.

A great day was had by all, and if you haven’t started your quilt for QuiltAid 2009 there is still time. You can buy your “Bluebird of Hope – Tree of Hope Block” from our online store and dont forget to have a look at our finishing kit, you can place your orders online for that also.

Till next week!

Confessions of a Quilt Show Newbie

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Ok ladies I have to admit, I had reservations about all the fuss that surrounded this quilt show- and all the others for that matter.

I wasnt quite sure that I would be able to find things to amuse myself for a few hours- after all HOW many stands could I look at without being totally overwhelmed and end up with nothing!

Well I am pleased to say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the whole experience was great!

I happily spent time browsing through all the stands, the colours from all the fabrics were a feast for the creative eye! There were lots of things to draw inspiration from some that I would like to attempt in the near future.

Our stand was by far the most impressive! (yes maybe I am a little biased! 🙂 )- but all in all it was a great day! Our Quilt Aid Finishing Kit has been met with rave reviews which is wonderful – we are thrilled with the result and are so excited to be a part of the program. Here are some pictures of our Quilt Aid quilt.

It is so inspiring when we get pictures sent to us from our customers of projects they have made.

 marnies-cherry-bag2

Isnt this bag so pretty? Its called “”Holly’s Bouquet” by Janelle Wind. Jackie made one very similar to this for our stand at the Wyong Quilt Show .

And here is Marnie with her beautiful bag, I am sure that we will be seeing a lot more of her work in the near future. It is so wonderful to see young people who love to sew as much as we do!

Well Done Marnie!
