One of loyal international readers and fan of the big and bizzare series – Paula Martin has written in with her very own version of Big and Bizzare and we’re excited to present her story this week – Thanks Paula!

Llano, TX a small town in the Central Texas Hill Country has long been popular with hunters and has gained the title “Deer Capital of Texas”.  In 2010 it was decided to bring the art community into the  deer theme as well.  Donors helped to purchase 7 plain white life sized white tail deer.  Local artist painted each of the deer as they pleased.

For the summer months the deer were displayed in front of local businesses and in the Fall they were auctioned off to raise money for charity.  The deer were such a success that the businesses  wanted to buy deer to display in front of their shops.

Today there are several deer throughout the community and visitors trail from one to the next taking photos ( an hopefully visiting the shops) so we have “The Trail of the Deer”.

Notes:  Llano is also called the Little Town That Time Forgot.  We have a beautiful courthouse in the middle of our square.  It is surround by businesses.  We are also proud of our bridge which has been in place since 1935 when the four span Roy Inks Bridge was completed to replace the bridge that had washed out in a flood.  (Mr. Inks was a former Mayor).
